After working in the newspaper business for nearly 20 years, Stevie Lowery began her first year of teaching as a journalism instructor at Campbellsville University during the 2022 fall semester. Lowery, 43, of Marion County, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mass communications from Murray State University. After college, she returned to her hometown and began a 19-year career with The Lebanon Enterprise, a weekly newspaper in Lebanon. During her career, she won countless first-place awards from the Kentucky Press Association for her reporting, photography, and page design. She’s one of 11 people who have received the Al Smith Award for public service through community journalism by a Kentuckian. She also received the coveted Max Heath Gold Star Award for Excellence in Community Journalism. She currently serves on the Tri-County United Way Board of Directors, and she’s been the director of the Marion County Girls on the Run program since 2011. She has one child, Owen, 16, three dogs, four cats, 10 miniature donkeys, and lives on her late mother’s farm in St. Francis, Ky. A once avid runner (humble brag – she completed the 2013 Chicago Marathon in under four hours) she now enjoys lifting weights, walking her dogs, sitting on her back deck, and attending her son’s tennis matches.
