Emily Hayden, Dr.

Ms. Emily Hayden has just begun her Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice position at CU fall semester of 2019. She has 10 years of educational background experience in criminal justice. She also has employment background in the field of criminal justice. She spent two years working as a deputy at Daviess County Detention Center. Several years researching inmates utilizing in person interviews on female offending. She spent one year working as a Cognitive Behavioral Facilitator, specializing in Moral Reconation Therapy, to include anger management, relapse prevention and behavioral modification courses. Ms. Hayden received her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Kentucky Wesleyan College, a Master of Science degree in Justice and Safety from Eastern Kentucky University, and fiinished her Ph.D in 2020. at the University of Louisville. Her research interests are varied, but center on theoretical integration. Her research interests typically focus on qualitative methods examining narratives in criminal justice efforts. However, she applies theories and quantitative methods to substance use, female offending and crime in the military. Her dissertation research focuses on a quantitative aspect of substance abuse issues with individuals who were in the military through a General Strain Theory lens. Her work has recently been published in the Journal of Criminal Justice Education and American Prisons and Jails: An Encyclopedia of Controversies and Trends.
