Dan Phillips
Dr. Dan Phillips has taught sociology and criminal justice courses since 1994. He currently serves at Campbellsville University as an instructor of sociology and criminal justice and is the Regional Coordinator for Faculty Development. He earned a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1997 from Virginia Tech. From 2000-2002, Dr. Phillips completed a postdoctoral fellowship from the National Association of Mental Health Program Directors Research Institute where he focused on mental health services in the criminal justice system. His areas of interest involve the intersection of mental health issues and the criminal justice system. His 2008 edited book entitled Mental Health Issues in the Criminal Justice System reflects this. His edited book entitled Probation and Parole: Current Issues also discussed mental health issues. Dr. Phillips has spoken in front of many criminal justice associations regarding this issue including the National Sheriffs Association and the American Jail Association. He has published in Corrections Today, American Jails, and Sheriff and Deputy magazine about mental health issues and suicide. Dr. Phillips also provides interviews on criminal justice and mental health topics to local National Public Radio stations. Dr. Phillips has served as editor and guest editor of several academic journals including the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation. He is currently Associate Editor of Criminal Justice Perspectives. Dr. Phillips is the past vice-president for the Somerset, Kentucky area ARC for citizens with developmental disabilities.
