CU to Feature Piano Duettists Dr. Vernon and Nancy Cherrix

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will feature Dr. Vernon and Nancy Cherrix, piano duettists, in concert at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 in The Gheens Recital Hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center on campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Dr. Cherrix is on the piano faculty of the School of Music at the University of Louisville, where is also the director of the Community Music Program. She maintains a private studio in Louisville, Ky.

The couple has been performing together as piano duettists for over 25 years. They met while Dr. Cherrix was a visiting professor at Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan.

Mrs. Cherrix is a graduate of Soochow University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree, and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she earned her master of music degree. She has performed in Taiwan and in the United States.

In addition to performing, Mrs. Cherrix was on the faculties of the Taipei American School, Payap University and Bluefield College.

Dr. Cherrix is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where he received his bachelor of music degree; Regent University, where he got his master of arts degree; and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Church Music, where he received a master of church music, doctor of musical arts and the performers certificate.

He has performed in solo, concerto and chamber music programs in the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines and Canada. He has also performed in the First International Music Festival in Hong Kong. Dr. Cherrix has given master classes in the United States and throughout Asia.

Dr. Cherrix's pupils have won local, state, regional and international competitions. The Russian/American Music Association awarded him a special citation for his outstanding teaching ability and, as a result, his pupil performed in Carnegie Hall.

Last year, one of his students was featured on the nationally syndicated radio program, Music From the Top, a PBS radio program featuring outstanding young classical artists.

The Cherrixes are active members of the Greater Louisville Music Teachers Association, the Kentucky Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. They performed recitals in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas and Virginia during the 2006-2007 school year.

The 2008-2009 season will take them to other venues around the country.

Dr. and Mrs. Cherrix reside in Louisville. They have two sons, Josiah, who graduated from the University of Kentucky at Lexington, and Simeon, who is a senior at UK.
