CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville University Carver School of Social Work and Counseling recently promoted the Pinwheel for Prevention campaign on its campus.

The Carver School became a PCAK (Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky) Partner in Prevention early in 2009 and became actively involved in community prevention efforts through the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign.

Some 500 pinwheels were purchased, raising over $280. Funds were managed by the SWITCH (Social Workers in Touch Can Help) Club, and given to the local school's Resource Centers Back Pack Program which supplies food for underprivileged children.

“The enthusiasm and initiative illustrated by the staff and students of Campbellsville University and the Carver School of Social Work,” said Laura Chowning, MPA, Community Development Coordinator for Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, “illustrate what the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign is all about — encouraging individuals and organizations to join together in raising public awareness of child abuse and its prevention.

“One of the ways our students change the world,” said Dr. Darlene Eastridge, dean of CU's Carver School, “is to get involved in the fight against child abuse and neglect. We are very proud to help in the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign and will continue to support the program.”

Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as a new symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention across the country. It represents ongoing efforts to change the way our nation thinks about prevention and focuses on activities and policies that prioritize prevention.
