CU jazz and chamber ensembles perform on fall tour

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville University Jazz Ensemble will be performing with the Campbellsville University Percussion Ensemble is performing at a variety of schools through Thursday, Nov. 15 for their annual fall recruiting tour.

The groups are scheduled to perform at seven different schools beginning tomorrow Nov. 8 through Nov. 15: Marion County, Washington County, Shelby County, Anderson County, Madison Southern, Corbin and Central Hardin high schools.

The tour concludes on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. in the sanctuary of Campbellsville Baptist Church, 420 N. Central Ave., Campbellsville. This performance is free and open to the public.

The jazz ensemble plays a variety of styles including classic big band, shuffle, rock and cha-cha. They also will be presenting some well-known favorites made famous by Count Basie's band, Dave Brubeck and The Commodores.

The percussion ensemble will be performing also and will include a variety of selections for marimba, concert toms and drumheads only.

The jazz ensemble is under the direction of Jennifer Tinnell, director of bands and instructor in music.

Blake Herron of Campbellsville, Ky., trumpet; Damon King of Bardstown, Ky., trumpet; Matt Macon of Bedford, Ky., trumpet; Joshua Fowler of Munfordville, Ky., trumpet; Benjamin Gaona of Springfield, Ky., trumpet;

Jeremy Bell of Harlan, Ky., trombone; Amelia Chase of Frankfort, Ky., trombone; Tyler Bland of Campbellsville, Ky., trombone; Tomohiro Suko of Tokyo, Japan, guitar; Andrey Junca Goncalves of Vitoria, Brazil, bass;

Danielle Souza of Monticello, Ky., piano; Cody Ferguson of Shepherdsville, Ky., percussion; and Rebecca Oliver of Scottsville, Ky., vocalist.

Chamber percussion is under the direction of Dr. Chad Floyd, assistant professor of music.

Chamber percussion members include Byeonggwan Kim Ulsan of South Korea; Jordan Stickel of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Michael Mather of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Caylyn Morris of Springfield, Ky., and Penny Duke of Elizabethtown, Ky.

The chamber percussion program will be from the following: “Head Talk” by Mark Ford, “Once Again” by Brad Shores, “Stubernic” by Mark Ford and “Tomboro” by Floyd.
