LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University's Carver School of Social Work and Counseling faculty member, Dr. Karen Westbrooks, has been appointed to the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family Therapists.

Westbrooks was recently appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to serve a four-year term on the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family Therapists.

Westbrooks is associate MFT director and associate professor of counseling for the Louisville Education Center.

Westbrooks' 21-year career in Marriage and Family Therapy includes clinical experiences in schools, private practice and children and service agencies. She served 10 years as a faculty member with Western Kentucky University and has served for the past two years at CU Louisville.

“My hope is to be received as someone who is open, fair and knowledgeable,” she said.

“I am excited about my appointment, and I feel that I can positively contribute to the protection of the public and the policing of the profession.”

Westbrooks said, “We must help prepare students for what will be required of them when they graduate. The field continues to change; we cannot educate 2015 graduates the same way as 2014 graduates.”

The Board of Licensure for Marriage and Family Therapists administers and enforces the statutory authority and monitors the needs of the consuming public. The board also examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of marriage and family therapy. Their website is mft.ky.gov.
