CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Students at Campbellsville University are taking a stand against poverty and hunger with activities planned for the Global Day of Action Against Poverty, Oct. 27.

Over 2,000 colleges and universities are registered in the challenge by ONE.org, an effort to gather “Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life - united as ONE - working to help make poverty history.”

CU is currently ranked fifth in the nation with over 380 people signed up and there is a goal to get 100 percent of faculty and students involved.

“Signing up just means taking a moment to enter your e-mail and school on the Web site www.one.org/campus,” said Andrea M. Lawler, women residence village director/women's housing coordinator. She said the local CU chapter is hoping for 100 percent of faculty and staff to register in support of their effort.

On the evening of Oct. 27, a costume ball and silent auction will begin at 8 p.m. in the Student Activities Center gym to collect monies which will go to The World Food Program as part of the benefit to fight hunger. Admission is a donation of $10 per person, or for students, a donation of $5 and a can of non-perishable food.

Tickets for the ball will be on sale and information will be available in the lobby of Winters Dining Hall all during the week prior to the events.
