Campbellsville University to present Greensburg organist Feb. 6

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. James Sperry, organist at Greensburg Presbyterian Church, will be presenting the next Noon Organ Recital program at Campbellsville University on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville at 12:20 p.m.

Sperry will perform works by J.S. Bach and Camille Saint-Saëns. The event is open to the public free of charge and will end by 12:50 p.m. to allow those attending to return to work.

The series provides organ music from the 1894 Farrand and Votey Organ in Ransdell Chapel which is enlarged to 51 ranks by Moeller, Pilcher and Milnar Organ Companies.

Sperry has had a varied career as church musician and college instructor. He has taught organ, music history and theory at Belleville Area College in Illinois, El Paso Community College, and University of Texas at El Paso, and was head of Arts and Humanities at Huron College in South Dakota.

During his teaching career, he held church music positions as organist and director of music. His other performing instrument is harpsichord and he has played with early music groups at the University of Texas at El Paso and Las Cruces and was awarded a performance grant from the South Dakota Arts Council.

Sperry holds degrees from University of California at Santa Barbara, University of Oregon and Washington University, St. Louis. He and his wife, Patsy, are retired and living in Greensburg, Ky.
