CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Are you plugged or are you planted? This is the question the Rev. Kenny Rager asked the audience at the Jan. 29 chapel at Campbellsville University.

“Campbellsville University is one of my favorite places to be,” Rager, a 2005 graduate of CU who is pastor of Life Community Church in Calhoun, Ky., said.

Rager's sermon centered on the Book of Psalms, chapter 92, which outlines the wonder and gladness found in praising God, as well as being “planted” in God, in order to bear fruit.

“There is great need all across our nation to start new churches and new church plants that will reach people to the gospel,” Rager said at the beginning of his sermon.

Rager used the analogy of life being like a giant surge protector. “We have many outlets, that we can plug things into, stuff like hobbies, jobs and recreational time, and the Lord gets one of those plugs,” he said.

Rager called for a transformation from the plugged in lifestyle to that of one that is rooted in God and the Bible. Rager said, “A better illustration might be, that we are planted deep inside the Lord.”

Rager emphasized the virtue of righteousness in several points of his sermon. “God can do such great things with people who are dedicated and sold out to his cause and passion,” he told the audience of students, faculty, staff, coaches and the community.

Rager later asked the crowd: “Are you growing in God's garden or are you playing in the dirt of the world?”
The theme for this academic year's chapel is “A Light to the Nations” referencing the book of Isaiah, where God calls his people to be a light to the world, so that others may know salvation.

Rager is a member of the Campbellsville University Church Relations Council. The Church Relations Council is an organization created to provide support for the Christian higher education mission of Campbellsville University. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in educational ministry from CU in 2005, and received a master of divinity degree from Liberty University in church growth and evangelism in 2011.

He is a native of Owensboro and a graduate of Apollo High School. At the age of 13, he answered the call to preach and has spoken at many youth camps, churches and revival meetings and has pastored two previous churches - South Greensburg Baptist Church and Living Faith Baptist Church in Hartford, Ky.
