Campbellsville University celebrates 2021 Honors and Awards Day on April 21

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - “This is for students, parents and friends, CU faculty, staff and coaches. All of you, thank you for coming,” Dr. H. Keith Spears, interim president, said at Campbellsville University's virtual Honors and Awards Day on April 21.

Spears announced Cathryn Belle Jones of Danville, Ky., and David Tyler Linton of Louisville, Ky., as Miss and Mr. Campbellsville.

Jones is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. She served as a work-study student in the Office of Business Services, as president of the Student Government Association and a member of the Junior Varsity Softball Team.

“Cathryn has demonstrated what it really means to be a servant leader throughout her time at Campbellsville,” Spears said.

Linton graduated in December of 2020 with a Bachelor of Science double major in Marriage and Family Ministry and Psychology. He is pursuing a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. He served as an intern in the Office of Enrollment, as a resident assistant for North Hall and Broadway Hall, a Baptist Campus Ministry small group leader, a Vineyard College Student Leader and an ambassador of CU Outdoors.

Jones recognized the recipients of the Student Government (SGA) special awards, listed as follows:

Extra Mile/Student - Andrew Vernon Beltz of Campbellsville, Ky.; Extra Mile/Faculty/Staff - Dave Walters, associate vice president for regional administration; Extra Mile/Special Award - Lisa Williams, dessert station server of Winters Dining Hall; and Challenger (Faculty) - Dr. Karen Rush, professor of business.

Recipients of the Servant Leadership Awards are as follows: Staff - Khalil Baker of Campbellsville, Ky., and Sara Basham of Campbellsville, Ky.; Students - Milan Carol Bailey of Louisville, Ky., and Mary Elizabeth Janocik of Louisville, Ky.

Ashley Fox, director of the Office of Alumni Relations, announced Alumni Associate Awards. The recipients are as follows: Talent - James Tyler Mattingly of Stanford, Ky.; Leadership - Carson Kathleen Kovalic of Winchester, Ky.; Double “A” - Savannah Delrae Gregory of Scottsville, Ky.; Don Doyle Spirit Award - Clarie Elizabeth Edwards of Benton, Ky.; Outstanding Senior - Ashton Meredith Leet of Louisville, Ky.; Achievement - Michael Samuel Adkins of Science Hill, Ky.; Athletic - Anthony Maurice Sams of Merrillville, Ind., and McKayla Campbell, of Wauseon, Ohio.

Spears announced the co-valedictorians from December of 2020, which are listed as follows: Claire Elizabeth Edwards of Benton, Ky.; Sydney Taylor Harris of Campbellsville, Ky.; Carson Kathleen Kovalic of Winchester, Ky.; and Beverly Paige Thomas of Springfield, Ky.

The December 2020 salutatorian was Skylar Maria Lanham of Philpot, Ky.

The co-valedictorians for May of 2021 are as follows: Sara Elizabeth Caffee of Central, Ky.; Megan Marie Duvall of Leitchfield, Ky.; Logan Michael Hall of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Noah Elias Henke of Erfurt, Germany; Ashton Meredith Leet of Louisville, Ky.; Evelyn Grace Madill of Wilmore, Ky.; Jonathan Nelson McClendon of Somerset, Ky.; and Natalie Christine Shadrick of Paducah, Ky.

Co-salutatorians for May of 2021 were Samuel Allen Fagerness of Chehalis, Wash., and Kasaundra Margaret Givans of Brandenburg, Ky.

The John Chowing Awards for Diversity and Community were announced by Dr. Carey Ruiz, associate professor of sociology and interim director of Diversity and Community, and Wanda Washington, assistant director of Diversity, Community and Bridge to Success, to the following: Faculty - Dr. Wendy Wood, professor of history; Staff - Trent Creason, director of student activities; and Student - Milan Bailey, of Louisville, Ky.

“The Office of Diversity and Community would like to congratulate all of our 2021 award recipients and thank them for their tireless efforts in addressing issues of equity in an effort to make our community stronger,” Washington said.

Natalie Christine Shadrick of Paducah, Ky., was the recipient of the Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honors Society Award.
